HISTORY OF THE NEW YORK BIRDIES GOLF CLUB, INC.
The New York Birdies Golf Club, Inc.,
(“NY Birdies”) is based on Long Island, New
York. It was established in 2003 as a not-for-profit association dedicated to the
sport of golf.
Thereafter, in 2004, it joined a group of seven other Birdie golf organizations,
Massachusetts, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and
Canada. The seven founding members of the New York Birdies were
Wesley Shands, President,
Rudy Richmond, Vice President, Larry Ratcliff, Levy Evelyn, George Graves, Joe Atkins* and
Oscar McFadden*.
The Birdie organization was started in Virginia by Theodore A. Cabral, Jr. in 1993.
The Birdies Clubs come together occasionally to further their common interests in golf and to pursue their love of the game within their respective clubs and states.
The NY Birdies changed its organizational structure in 2017, becoming a New York State charitable organization formed under the New York State Not-For-Profit law. Its’ stated purposes as reflected in its formation documents, are: to promote
the enjoyment and fellowship of the sport; to encourage and organize games and contests among its members and members of similar organizations for the enjoyment and well-being of members, guests and friends; to support and
encourage students to pursue golf as a potential career and to compete for financial assistance for college; and to promote respect for people of all races
within the sport.
The current President of the NY Birdies is Derrick Michaels.
